Russia reports record daily coronavirus deaths for the second day in a row

Russia reported 1,251 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, November 18, marking a new daily record for the second day running. The previous pandemic high — 1,247 deaths — was confirmed on Wednesday. 

According to official statistics, the total number of coronavirus fatalities since the start of the pandemic is now 260,335. 

Russia currently has the world’s highest daily average number of new coronavirus deaths reported, according to Reuters COVID-19 tracker. That said, the number of new infections is decreasing.

On Thursday, Russia reported 37,374 new coronavirus infections registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s pandemic total to more than 9.2 million confirmed cases. 

In total, more than 7.9 million people have recovered from the disease so far, including 36,414 patients discharged from hospitals in the past day.
