For the third day running, Russia registers more than 40,000 new coronavirus cases

On the morning of Monday, November 1, Russia reported that 40,402 new coronavirus cases had been registered in the last 24 hours, as well as 1,155 fatalities. This marks the third day in a row that the country has seen more than 40,000 new cases.

Russia has recorded 8,554,192 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, along with 239,693 deaths.

Moscow confirmed the highest number of new cases on Monday morning, reporting 7,103 new infections in the past 24 hours. Around 10,000 seriously ill coronavirus patients have been hospitalized in the capital over the past week, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin told Interfax on Monday.

Russia has seen surging coronavirus infection rates since the beginning of September. In October, the country recorded more than one million cases of COVID-19 — the highest monthly incidence since the start of the pandemic. The federal government also confirmed 31,283 COVID-19 deaths, another monthly record.

Against the backdrop of the latest coronavirus wave, President Vladimir Putin announced a countrywide “non-working week” from October 30 to November 7. Several regions, including Moscow, opted to go into partial lockdown even earlier.
