Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich called for questioning in criminal case over Belarusian opposition’s transition council

Nobel Prize-winning writer Svetlana Alexievich has been summoned to the Belarusian Investigative Committee for questioning in connection with the criminal investigation into the opposition’s transition council.

Former Belarusian culture minister Pavel Latushko (Paval Lathuska) was also called in for questioning. 

Belarusian officials launched a criminal case over the opposition’s Coordination Council for the transition of power on August 20. The council is being investigated under article 361 of the Belarusian Criminal Code: calls for actions aimed at causing harm to national security, which is punishable by up to five years in prison.
