The Belarusian military has scheduled reservist training in the Vitebsk region on August 11, two days after the country holds its presidential election, according to the news agency Interfax. A spokeswoman for the Defense Ministry told reporters that the drills were planned previously as part of regular readiness exercises throughout the year, clarifying that reservists who are called up won’t always be drafted into military service.
The Defense Ministry’s announcement follows reports that Belarusian enlistment offices have started summoning large numbers of new conscripts to report on August 11.
