Putin orders review of law enforcement practices surrounding drug cases

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Internal Affairs Ministry, and the Federal Security Service (FSB) to analyze law enforcement practices that are currently applied to Russian drug cases. The order appears in a list of new measures issued after the president’s annual call-in.

Putin also ordered law enforcement officials to increase their attention to the legality of actions taken during investigations of drug cases. The Prosecutor General’s Office is scheduled to present a report on the enforcement of the new orders by October 1, 2019. Subsequently, it will be required to present similar reports once every six months.
