Source: Baza

The news outlet Baza and the nonprofit Transparency International — Russia have reported that Police Colonel Andrey Shchirov, whose subordinates arrested Meduza correspondent Ivan Golunov, owns land in the Moscow suburbs that is worth between 50 million and 70 million rubles ($772,000 – $1.1 million).

Journalists found at least ten plots of land belonging to Shchirov and his mother in three different neighborhoods and reported that Shchirov’s mother owns a Volvo XC90 worth about 4 million rubles ($61,740). Transparency International — Russia will submit a complaint asking Russian prosecutors to determine the ratio between the value of Shchirov’s property and his legal income. “If the colonel’s property exceeds his income in the last three years, it must be seized as government property,” the nonprofit’s representatives wrote.
