Moscow’s Tverskoi District Court has sentenced Alexey Navalny’s spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, to 25 days in jail for helping him promote unpermitted anti-Putin rallies on May 5.

Moscow police detained Yarmysh on May 22 when she tried to help another Navalny activist, Ruslan Shaveddinov (who co-anchors the Navalny Live YouTube channel), whom the authorities detained outside his home earlier that day. Yarmysh has vowed to appeal the ruling.

Across the country, police detained more than 1,600 demonstrators, including 158 minors. On May 15, Alexey Navalny was sentenced to 30 days in jail for organizing the “illegal” rallies. On May 23, the Moscow City Court rejected Navalny’s appeal.
