Only Putin and the Communists are planning rallies on Election Day

Across Russia, the only two presidential candidates planning demonstrations this Election Day weekend are Vladimir Putin and Communist Party nominee Pavel Grudinin, according to the newspaper Kommersant.

The Putin campaign’s rallies will reportedly celebrate the anniversary of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the president’s almost-certain re-election. Grudinin’s supporters plan to advocate free and fair elections.

Neither LDPR nor the opposition party Yabloko, both of which are fielding their own candidates, have any planned rallies related to Sunday’s presidential election. A day after the vote, the leftist movement “Left Front” has a permit to stage a rally at Suvorov Square in Moscow. Speakers will discuss the election results.
