A lot of cocaine is discovered at Russia’s Buenos Aires embassy

Earlier this week, almost 400 kilograms (880 pounds) of cocaine was discovered at a school run by the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires. The drugs were reportedly going to be smuggled to Moscow.

In a joint police operation, Russian and Argentinian officials have detained five suspects, including a former employee at the embassy who was allegedly preparing the cocaine for a shipment to Moscow. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has denied allegations by Maxim Mironov, a local Russian blogger, that more diplomatic staff were involved. Mironov says the cocaine was packed into 12 suitcases and couldn’t have slipped by unnoticed. Moscow says Mironov is merely the disaffected “leader of a local opposition cell.”
