Russia's Attorney General's Office is reviewing extremism allegations against three independent filmmakers

The Attorney General’s Office is reviewing allegations that “Artdokfest” film festival president Vitaly Mansky and the directors Beata Bubenec and Evgeny Titarenko committed extremist acts and publicly justified terrorism. Officials are responding to an appeal by the right-wing “SERB movement,”which raided two screenings of Bubenec’s film last December.

Titarenko’s film, “War for Peace,” wasn’t screened at Artdokfest, following a complaint by State Duma Deputy Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy.

Bubenec’s controversial documentary film, “Flight of the Bullet,” is also about the armed conflict in Ukraine. In mid-December, she spoke to Meduza about the making of the movie and the controversy that has surrounded it.
