Putin reinstates flights to Cairo, but Egypt's resort towns are still off limits

Source: Meduza

Vladimir Putin has signed an executive order reinstating regular flightsbetween Russia and Cairo. Russia suspended air travel with Egypt in November 2015, following the crash of a Russian passenger plane over the Sinai, which killed all 224 people aboard. Russian investigators say an explosive device is the likeliest reason for the crash.

On December 15, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov and Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathy signed a protocol on cooperation on civil aviation security, paving the way for Putin’s new executive order, which only lifts Russia’s ban on flights to Cairo(leaving in place Moscow’s prohibition on direct air travel to Egypt’s resort cities).
