Russia’s Federal Security Service has announced the detention of four suspects in an alleged terrorist plot to set off a series of explosions in Moscow. According to officials, the suspects planned to set off the bombs on public transportation and in shopping centers.

One of the suspects is a Russian citizen and the other three are reportedly citizens of Central Asian countries. According to federal agents, two of the suspects planned to act as suicide bombers, with the help of a bomb maker and an emissary of the terrorist organization ISIS. The Russian authorities have not yet released the names of the suspects.

The Federal Security Service also says it shut down a terrorist bomb-making laboratory in the Moscow region.

In late July, Russian federal agents announced the capture of seven people from Central Asian countries suspected of planning terrorist attacks in St. Petersburg. The suspect’s names have not been revealed.

On April 3, 2017, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device aboard the St. Petersburg subway, leading to the deaths of 15 people. Investigators have detained 10 people suspected of involvement in the attack, and police say the brothers Abror and Akram Azimov likely organized the bombing. The two men, now in custody, say they were tortured by Russian officials after they were detained.
