The head of construction company Ateks, a part of Russia’s Federal Security Service, has been detained for embezzlement in a construction project on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, reported publications Fontanka and RBK on Tuesday, citing sources.

According to RBK, Andrei Kaminov was detained on the basis of testimony provided by businessman Sergei Mikhalchenko, who himself was arrested in March 2016. The new case on embezzling money in the construction of a guest house for Putin’s official residence is being overseen by the same investigator who is overseeing the Mikhalchenko case.

The publication The New Times reported that Mikhalchenko had arranged for Kaminov – his godson – to work in the unitary enterprise Ateks, as Michalchenko himself had ties in Russia’s Federal Security Service.

Ateks is the Federal Security Service’s largest contractor in the Caucasus. According to publication RBK, the enterprise has, amongst other projects, built a dacha and a sports complex there, in addition reconstructing the residence situated on Bocharov Ruche. The total sum of its tenders is estimated at 9.3 billion rubles (approximately $163 million).
