Russia asks Apple to crack iPhone of its ambassador’s killer in Turkey

Employees of Russian and Turkish law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation of the murder Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov in Ankara, asked Apple to give them access to the iPhone of the ambassador’s killer Mevlut Altyntash.

According to The Hacker News, investigators turned to Apple to help them to bypass the pin code on Altyntash’s iPhone 4S.

According MacReports, Apple rejected the request and Russia sent its own experts to Turkey who are likely to have already gained access to the killer’s iPhone.

On December 19, Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was killed by Turkish policeman Mevlut Altyntash.

Turkish authorities believe that the “the instigators of the July coup” were responsible for the murder and that their aim was to undermine relations between the two countries.

However, after the murder, Altyntash shouted phrases in support of Syria in a mixture of Arabic and Turkish.
