Peskov sees “phenomenal” similarities between Putin and Trump’s statements

Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that he sees “phenomenal” similarities in the approach of Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump to foreign policy.

That is the conclusion that the Kremlin spokesperson came to when comparing Putin’s speech at a meeting of the Valdai club to Trump’s victory speech to supporters in New York:

“Trump said, the main thing for me is America and [it’s] interests, but we will be ready to build relationships and to engage in dialogue with any country in so far as this country is ready. Putin has said the same thing, only, of course, speaking of the absolute priority for him that Russia’s national interests.”

In an interview with the Associated Press, Peskov said that Russian experts kept in touch with some members of Trump’ campaign staff during the election. Trump’s spokesman, in turn, denied any connection with any foreign entities.

In the 2016 presidential elections on November 8, Republican candidate Donald Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump’s inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.

After Trump's victory, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to proceed with restoring relations with the United States.
