A statue of revolutionary Vladimir Lenin has been dismantled in the Ukrainian city of Novgorod-Seversky in the Chernigov region after it failed to sell. ,The starting price of the monument was 1 million hryvnia (just under $39,000).

News source Espreso.TV claims that this was the last Lenin statue standing in Ukraine. Other sources have not confirmed this information.

The dismantled Lenin statue has been put in storage. If a buyer does not appear, the municipal administration will send the statue to the smelter.

The Lenin statue was erected in the center of Novgorod-Seversky in 1985. The height of the itself (pedestal excluded) was about five meters (approximately 5.47 yards).

In May 2015, Ukraine adopted a series of laws "condemning the communist and Nazi regimes". Amongst other things, the laws stipulated that all remaining monuments to Lenin would be dismantled in Ukraine, and all settlements and streets bearing the names of Soviet statesmen would be renamed.

On those statues of Lenin that were in public places were included on list of monuments to be demolished. All other statues, such as those found on the inner courts of enterprises, were excluded from the list.

Many statues of Lenin were dismantled in Ukraine in the period between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 against the backdrop of political crisis in Ukraine.
