A report by newspaper Novaya Gazeta on an alleged foiled assassination attempt on Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov does not correspond to reality, said the president's spokesperson Almi Karimov on Monday.

"There was no attempt to assassinate the head of the Chechen Republic in the village of Benoy," Karimov said, according to whom all information in regards to explosives being installed in the president's home is also a lie.

Karimov called the information not more than conspiracy.

Novaya Gazeta reported on October 3 that a plot to assassinate Ramzan Kadyrov was in the making in spring of 2016. According to the newspaper, the conspirators planted an explosive device in a residence in the village of Benoy where Kadyrov usually stops. The plot was discovered, reported Novaya Gazeta, and those implicated in it were found in possession of a large number of weapons and ammunition.

The article in Novaya Gazeta was written by journalist Elena Milashina, who has been writing about Chechnya over the course of many years.
