Russian state prosecutors have opened an investigation targeting Ramil Ibragimov, the president of the Union of Young Innovators of Tatarstan, for an Instagram post he wrote this week celebrating the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando this past weekend.

The prosecutors' press release doesn't mention specifically why they're investigating Ibragimov, stating merely that the 35 year old is the focus of a new case involving his Instagram post. Officials promise “comprehensive measures,” if any illegal activity is discovered.

Following the attack in Florida, Ibragimov posted a photograph of himself posing with an attractive young woman, adding the caption, “In Orlando (USA), some upright Afghan guy shot a gay nightclub to shit!!!! :) 50 faggots! :) Another 53 are now in the hospital. It's a shame they didn't kick the bucket, too. I really hope they all croak. The Union of Young Innovators offers its sincere support to this DECISIVE act!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)”

Ibragimov later deleted this post, telling reporters that terrorist attacks are murder and, therefore, “the same mortal sin as homosexuality.”

“They're even writing that I'm one of ‘Putin's henchmen.’ Guys, hell, for me this is a compliment! There's this trend online these days: moralfags [sic]. They're not good for anything except snitching through their little computer keyboards,” Ibragimov told the news website Kazan Reporter.
