Russian federal prosecutors say ‘Echo of Moscow’ published an extremist text

The Russian Attorney General's Office says it's found evidence of extremism and a call to violate the nation's territorial integrity in an article written by Andrei Piontkovsky, titled “A Bomb Ready to Explode,” published on the website of the radio station Echo of Moscow on January 23. News of the findings came from State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliyev, who helped initiate the investigation into the article.

Piontkovsky is currently abroad. He says he'll be represented in court by Mark Feygin, who's defended other political cases like the Pussy Riot trio and Ukrainian soldier Nadiya Savchenko.

After publishing Piontkovsky's article, Echo of Moscow later redacted the final two lines, removing his claim that the Chechen Republic needs to be jettisoned from the Russian Federation.
