Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk ordered an expansion of the import-ban list for Russian goods at a government meeting today.
“I have instructed the Economic Ministry to review and expand the list of [banned] products that should be categorized as countermeasures to protect the Ukrainian domestic market against Russian economic aggression,” Yatsenyuk said.
On December 21, 2015, the Russian government added Ukraine to its list of countries under trade restrictions. The restrictions ban the trade of meat, milk, vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, and other products.
On January 1, 2016, Russia suspended its free-trade-zone agreement with Ukraine and imposed duties on Ukrainian goods.
In response, Ukraine has banned Russian imports of meat, fish, milk, cheese, baked goods, tea, coffee, cigarettes, and other goods. Ukraine also introduced trade duties for Russian goods on January 1, 2016.
