One year later, Russia's political opposition plans to hold a march in memory of Boris Nemtsov
The Russian opposition's self-appointed Committee for Protest Actions has decided to hold a march in memory of Boris Nemtsov, says Alexander Ryklin, a political council member of the Solidarnost movement.
The march is planned for February 27, the first anniversary of Nemtsov's murder.
“We will apply for a permit to hold a march. It will follow the same route as last year, along the Moscow River embankment and exiting onto the [Bolshoy Moskvoretsky] bridge. We'll probably ask in our permit to end with a rally at Bolotnaya Square,” Ryklin said.
Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on February 27, 2015, on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, within view of the Kremlin. On March 1, a vigil honoring the murdered politician attracted thousands of mourners.
Russia's Investigative Committee has arrested five suspects for the murder of Boris Nemtsov: Zaur Dadaev, Shadid Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev, Tamerlane Eskerhanov, and Anzor Gubashev. The five suspects were formally charged in late December 2015.
Investigators believe that Ruslan Muhudinov, a soldier from the North (Sever) Battalion, a special forces unit loyal to Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, ordered the murder of Boris Nemtsov. There is still no official information for the motive for the murder. Ruslan Muhudinov's whereabouts are still unknown.
