On the morning of February 1, Russian forces carried out deadly strikes on multiple regions of Ukraine. Missiles and drones damaged residential buildings in Poltava, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks as “another act of terrorist crime” and renewed his call for Western partners to step up support, including by providing additional air defense systems.

In Poltava, a missile struck a five-story apartment building, destroying an entire section. According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, 14 people were killed in the attack, including two children. Among the victims was actress Anastasiia Kolvakh. Her death was confirmed by the local theater Teatr Suchasnoho Dialohu, where she worked. Another 17 people, including four children, were injured.

Rescue crews continue clearing the rubble, where more people may still be trapped. Meduza shares photos of the aftermath of the Russian strike on Poltava.
