Friendship of Peoples ‘Elle Russia’ October issue features 25 covers photographed across the former Soviet Union

Source: Meduza

For its October issue, the fashion magazine Elle Russia published 25 covers with the headlines “Friendship of Peoples” and “Elle Without Borders.” The project was shot in various locations across Russia and the former Soviet Union, using local models and photographers. In the issue, Elle writes about the 25 different cultures and peoples featured on the covers — some of the articles are even in local languages. “It’s too bad that a frame has its own boundaries and it doesn’t fit all of the participants in [this shoot], the residents of the mountain village of Itum-Kali in Chechnya,” Elle Russia editor-in-chief Ekaterina Mukhina commented in an Instagram post. “These are people of the same fire, where they love, make friends, celebrate, and dance with their entire family, with their own — giving them all of their hearts.” At the same time, some of the covers featured on Elle Russia’s Instagram account generated controversy, particularly the one shot in Ukraine. Meduza shares a few of the covers from the October issue here.
