Oily Attitudes Why Russians and Europeans couldn’t disagree more about the price of crude. An infographic

Source: Meduza

Oily Attitudes is an interactive infographic explaining how oil prices are perceived in different countries. Loading this page, the infographic will default to the current price of oil. If you raise or lower the price, however, moving the slider to the left or the right, you’ll see how different countries’ attitudes about oil’s value change.

The logic here is simple: the main consumers of oil prefer lower prices, while producers are more interested in higher prices. In the United States, both these factors operate, as the US is both a large consumer of oil and a major producer. Attitudes differ in Russia and Saudi Arabia because oil-extraction costs are considerably cheaper in Saudi Arabia.
