Zelensky’s office denies Bloomberg report that Trump urged him to meet Putin in Moscow
Donald Trump urged Volodymyr Zelensky to go to Moscow to meet Vladimir Putin, sources told Bloomberg. Trump made the suggestion when he and Zelensky met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, the sources said. Zelensky turned him down.
People close to the Ukrainian president said he was upset that Trump was again urging him to go to Moscow.
Update: Ukraine’s President’s Office denies that Trump suggested Zelensky travel to Moscow, Financial Times correspondent Christopher Miller said. According to his sources, the two presidents discussed possible trilateral talks, but Trump did not suggest that Zelensky go to Moscow to meet with Putin.
The Kremlin has repeatedly said Putin and Zelensky could meet only in Moscow. On September 23, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “Our position is well known. Putin has said that Zelensky can come to Moscow if he wants to. He will be given the necessary security guarantees.”
In June 2026, Putin said Zelensky had asked to meet him in person through a Russian businessman later identified as Roman Abramovich. Putin said he had never refused to meet but did not want to “talk for the sake of talking.”
