Kremlin calls reports of new mobilization in Russia ‘fabricated stories’

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused Ukrainian authorities of trying to “ideologically destabilize the situation in our country” through their statements about a possible mobilization in Russia, he told the Russian media outlet RTVI.

Reporters had asked Peskov how the Kremlin views claims that a new mobilization is being prepared, and whether Russian authorities are considering any scenario that would involve announcing one.

“You know, all of this is being planted by the Ukrainian authorities. Naturally, the regime is trying to ideologically destabilize the situation in our country. These are all fabricated stories that are deliberately being planted in the information space,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.

Reports that Russia might announce another mobilization after elections to the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, have circulated for several weeks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russian authorities are allegedly planning to mobilize up to 300,000 people in the fall, a claim Russian authorities deny.

Dmitry Peskov also denied plans for what became September 2022‘s “partial mobilization.” On September 13 of that year, he said that “at the moment” there was no talk of mobilization.
