The Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat petrochemical complex has suspended operations after a Ukrainian drone attack, Reuters reported, citing two industry sources. The complex is one of the largest in Russia.

The sources told the agency that the damage forced the shutdown of two crude distillation units: CDU-6, with a capacity of 17,140 metric tons a day, and CDU-4, which can process 11,430 metric tons of oil and gas condensate a day.

Several secondary processing units and other equipment were also damaged. Repairs could take anywhere from several weeks to several months, the sources said. The plant’s press service did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

The attack on Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat took place in the early hours of July 14. Radiy Khabirov, the head of Bashkortostan, claimed the main facilities had not been damaged and suggested the plant would be fully back in operation within a few days.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat produces gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and other petroleum products. The plant accounted for about 2.7 percent of Russia’s total refining throughput in 2024, according to Reuters.

Regular Ukrainian drone attacks are forcing Russian refineries to suspend or shut down operations. Oil refining in Russia fell to a 21-year low in June, according to Bloomberg. All of this has led to a fuel crisis in the country, one that has now lasted more than a month.
