Ukraine says it struck Russia’s largest oil refinery for the first time
Ukrainian drones struck the Omsk oil refinery for the first time, according to the Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels Exilenova+ and Supernova+.
Omsk region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko warned of a “drone threat” on the afternoon of July 6, then wrote in his Telegram channel that “enemy UAVs” had been shot down over the region. Several drones “managed to reach the northern industrial hub of Omsk,” he added.
Update. Ukraine’s General Staff soon announced that Ukrainian drones had struck the Omsk refinery, located 2,500 kilometers (1,553 miles) from the Ukrainian border. The independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo, after analyzing published footage, confirmed that the videos show the Omsk refinery. The Ukrainian project Dnipro Osint claims that a primary oil processing unit was damaged in the strike.
The Omsk refinery is Russia’s largest by oil processing volume. If the strike is confirmed, only one refinery from Russia’s top ten will remain untouched by Ukrainian drones — the Angarsk Petrochemical Company in the Irkutsk region.
