Azerbaijan rejects Chechnya’s offer of assistance for plane crash victims, demanding an apology and compensation instead
A source from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s administration told reporters on Friday that the families of those killed in the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane on December 25 do not need any assistance from the Chechen authorities.
On Thursday, Chechen Prime Minister Hasan Khakimov announced that, at the request of Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov, all families of the deceased and injured would receive financial aid and "all other necessary support."
“Azerbaijan does not need any assistance. Neither the state nor its citizens will accept such help. We will continue to provide the necessary support to our own people. Azerbaijan demands acknowledgment of the incident, an apology, and appropriate compensation payments,” the source from Azerbaijan’s presidential administration told the outlet Day.az.
Meanwhile, Russian state media reported that Azerbaijani investigators are in Grozny, working with Russian officials on the investigation into the plane crash.
