Russia to lift ban on gasoline exports ahead of schedule

The Russian government plans to lift its current ban on gasoline exports ahead of schedule, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak revealed on Friday. According to Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, prices are now stable enough to warrant the measure.

Sources in Russia’s Energy Ministry told the news agency Interfax that officials plan to lift the export ban on all types of gasoline starting December 1, but only for producers. The embargo would remain in place for all other exporters “for another two winter months.”

Since March 1, 2024, Russia has prohibited gasoline exports to countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union. Officials say the policy is necessary to “maintain stability” in the fuel market during high demand. Moscow lifted the restrictions between May and August due to an oversupply in the domestic market and the completion of emergency repairs at oil refineries damaged by Ukrainian drone attacks.
