Ukraine shoots down 30 missiles and 27 drones launched by Russia in overnight attack

The Russian military launched a large-scale overnight missile attack on Ukraine. The attack employed air-launched and sea-launched missiles, and Iranian Shahed-136/131 drones.

During the night, air raid sirens were activated across Ukraine. In the first wave of attacks, Russia launched 14 sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles and three Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles, reported Ukraine’s Air Force Command.

In the second wave of attacks, Russia launched 27 drones from the southeast, six Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea, and 20 Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 strategic bombers located in the area of the Caspian Sea.

According to Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russia launched a total of 70 missiles and drones in the overnight attack.

Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 17 Kalibr cruise missiles, 13 Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles, and 27 Shahed-136/131 attack drones.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces did not say where the remaining 13 missiles landed.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the Russian army had carried out attacks on the Khmelnytskyi region using Kinzhal and Kalibr missiles. The company Motor Sich in Zaporizhzhia was also attacked. Damage was also reported in the Sumy and Khmelnytskyi regions.

According to Zelensky, a guided air bomb fell on a blood transfusion center in the Kupiansk area in the Karkhiv region, killing and injuring several people.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it carried out multiple attacks using high-precision weapons on the night of August 6. The Ministry said it carried out the attacks on a Ukrainian air bases near Starokostyantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi region and Dubno in the Rivne region. The ministry wrote that, “The mission was successful. All targets were hit.”
