Russia strikes port infrastructure in Odesa region again, one killed

On the night of July 27, Russian troops launched a new missile strike on Odesa region, says Oleh Kiper, head of the region’s military administration.

In his words, the target of the attack was port infrastructure. Russian Kalibr missiles were fired from a submarine in the the Black Sea.

As a result of the strike, a guard was killed, equipment at a cargo terminal was damaged, a security building was destroyed, and two cars were destroyed.

AFU Air Force Command says that a total of two cruise missile were launched.

Additionally, the Ukrainian military says eight Iranian Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones were launched from the area of Primorsko-Akhtarsk at Ukrainian territory. All of them were destroyed by air defense forces from the Khmelnytsky, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions, the AFU said.

This attack is the latest in a string of recent Russian attacks on port infrastructure facilities in southern Ukraine, including Odesa, calling them “retaliation” for the Crimean Bridge bombing. On the night of July 23, the center of Odessa came under the most extensive shelling since the war began, destroying the city’s largest Orthodox church, the Transfiguration Cathedral. The Russian Defense Ministry denies that the cathedral was the target of the Russian attack and says the cathedral was destroyed due to the “illiterate actions of Ukrainian air defense operators.” The Kremlin claims that the cathedral was damaged by Ukrainian air defenses.
