‘Rise Up, Great Country’: Uzbekistan native opens fire on St. Petersburg policeman, to Soviet soundtrack

Tigran Khachikyan, an Uzbekistan native living in St. Petersburg, has critically wounded a National Guard policeman on Nevsky Prospect.

The National Guard has posted video footage of the incident:

Local Telegram channels report that the 50-year old suspect had arrived in the city center with two shotguns, two Molotov cocktails, and a sound amplifier. He set up the amp near the Gostiny Dvor subway station, blasting the World War II song “Rise Up, Great Country” while unpacking his shotgun.

When approached by a police officer, he opened fire.

Judging by the security camera footage, two gunshots had been fired. The wounded policeman is hospitalized in critical condition.
