The Ukrainian government has appointed Ihor Klymenko, the head of the country’s National Police, as provisional head of the Internal Affairs Ministry, reports Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Shmyhal added that “a new department head will be presented after a discussion in parliament.”
On the morning of January 18, a helicopter crashed in the city of Brovary, in the Kyiv region. On board were Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, six officials who were accompanying him, and three crew members. The helicopter crashed between a kindergarten and a residential building, after which it caught on fire.
According to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service at 3:00 pm local time, 14 bodies were found at the site of the crash, including one child and nine people who were aboard the helicopter. Ukrainian authorities reported that Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky was among those killed. 25 people, including 11 children, were injured in the crash.
