Moscow State University’s Journalism department will soon begin offering a course in “war journalism.” TASS reported this, citing a statement made Ruslan Novikov, the director of the Arguments and Facts publishing house, at the Yenisey.RF media forum in Krasnoyarsk.

According to Novikov, he discussed the new course offering with Elena Vartanova, the MSU Journalism department chair. “A course in war journalism is badly needed now,” he said. “We have speakers who can come and show — come and demonstrate how this is done professionally, and why it’s done in that particular way.”

This October, Vladimir Medinsky, Russia’s former Minister of Culture and now Assistant to the President, remarked that the MSU Journalism department is “chockfull of liberal freaks” brought up by the “liberal faculty.” Medinsky’s staff later apologized to the university community for Medinsky’s words — suggesting immediately that he give a guest lecture at the school.
