Russian Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov has publicly opposed calls for retaliating against potential restrictions the U.S. government might impose on Russian media outlets.
“It’s shameful to resort to such rhetoric about banning media outlets. I think we need to consider other levers and measures of influence, and avoid such ‘reverse’ approaches,” Nikiforov told journalists on Wednesday, asking Russians not to exaggerate the role of the American media in Russia, which he described as “negligible.”
