Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have lost limbs as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion. To help provide them with prostheses, rehabilitation services, and other kinds of support free of charge, a specialized clinic called the Superhumans Center was opened in Ukraine’s Lviv region in 2023. Meduza shares photos of some of the facility’s current patients.

Mykola Gradnov-Savytskyi is a veteran of Ukraine’s Azov Brigade who lost both legs in combat before being taken prisoner by Russia. Since his release, Mykola and his wife Kateryna have worked to raise awareness of the fact that numerous Ukrainians, including defenders of Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant, remain in Russian captivity.
