Women in white form human chains in solidarity with protesters in Belarus

Nearly 200 women dressed in white and carrying flowers formed a human chain outside of the Kamaroŭski Market in central Minsk on the morning of August 12. This action was held as a show of solidarity with the protesters <a href="https://meduza.io/en/feature/2020/08/10/scenes-from-last-night-s-post-election-crackdown-in-minsk-belarus" target="_blank">injured by police</a> officers during this week’s demonstrations in Belarus. For the past three days there have been ongoing <a href="https://meduza.io/en/feature/2020/08/10/the-contest-after-the-vote" target="_blank">opposition demonstrations</a> across the country; police officers have arrested protesters en masse, using tear gas, stun grenades, water cannons, rubber bullets, and truncheons against demonstrators. Women formed <a href="https://meduza.io/feature/2020/08/12/u-menya-segodnya-den-rozhdeniya-no-kak-ya-mogu-prazdnovat" target="_blank">similar solidarity chains</a> in neighborhoods throughout the Belarusian capital, as well as in the cities of Zhodino, Grodno, Lida, and Gomel.
