After a businessman in Irkutsk agreed to help Navalny's campaign, somebody tied a severed pig's head to his office door
Unknown persons in Irkutsk tied a severed pig’s head to the doors of a local businessman’s office, after he agreed to offer space to Alexey Navalny’s presidential campaign for a political rally. On Facebook, Navalny campaign chief Leonid Volkov posted a photograph of the pig’s head, which had a pentagram carved into its forehead and a flyer stuffed in its mouth, reading, “The offer is still good. Take it!!”
Volkov quips that the pig’s head demonstrates the local mafia’s Calabrian roots, arguing that Sicilian mobsters would have left a horse’s head. Volkov says Irkutsk Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov’s mother, Albina Koroleva, is the godmother of a criminal group controlled by Attorney General Yuri Chaika's family.
Navalny’s November 4 rally in Irkutsk will take place at a furniture warehouse owned by Dmitry Tolmachev, who stated publicly that he’s making his store available as a contribution to the campaign.
Since mid-September, Alexey Navalny has been touring the country, holding campaign rallies in different cities every weekend. In many cases, local officials have refused to issue him permits for demonstrations. On October 29, Navalny held a rally in Tambov on private property, at a store in a local shopping mall, made available by the owner.
