Zelensky: Ukrainian army has halted Russian advance near Kharkiv

Ukrainian troops have successfully “stabilized” the situation along the northern front in the Kharkiv region, where Russia launched a new offensive last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told journalists on Friday. “The furthest point of their advance is 10 kilometers [about six miles], Zelensky said. “In some directions, the enemy brigades have made no advancement whatsoever.”

According to Zelensky, Russian troops have not reached the strongest fortifications and are still near the first line of defense. “The first line is not a border,” Zelensky explained, as Ukrainian troops built the first and second defensive lines “while under constant fire.” The third line, constructed by local authorities, is the strongest simply because it was built “farther from the reach of [Russian] weapons.”

The Ukrainian president added that Russia’s main target is the city of Vovchansk.
