Russia launches drone attack on Ukraine, damaging energy infrastructure and injuring one person

Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using Shahed-136/131 drones, reported Ukraine’s Air Force. According to Ukraine, Russia launched 38 drones from its Kursk and Krasnodar regions overnight on November 17.

“‘Shaheds’ attacked in several waves, in groups, in different regions of Ukraine, in areas where all Air Force commands are responsible,” reads a statement by Ukraine’s Air Force. Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, and mobile firing units destroyed 29 drones. Around 10 drones were shot down on approach to Kyiv, said the head of the city’s military administration Serhiy Popko.

In Ukraine’s Odesa region, drones hit an energy infrastructure facility, reported Operational Command South. Ukraine’s Energy Ministry stated that an oil depot was hit in the attack. An administrative building was damaged in a fire that was extinguished. One person was hospitalized for his injuries. Two thousand people were left without electricity.

In Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian forces shot down four out of eight drones, reported the region’s governor Yuriy Malashko. According to him, a fire broke out at infrastructure facilities. The shock wave broke the windows in several houses, Zaporizhzhia’s city council secretary Anatoliy Kurtev said. No casualties were reported.
