Patriarch Kirill says ban on ‘coercing’ women to have abortions would help grow Russia’s population

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church supports Russian regions’ initiative to ban “coercing” women to have abortions, calling for it to be extended to the federal level.

“Unfortunately, the number of abortions in the country still remains high. Thank God, there are some initiatives at the legislative level, aimed at reducing the amount of abortions. Not long ago, for example, Mordovia adopted a law that banned encouraging abortion. I hope that this initiative will be supported in other regions and at the federal level,” said Patriarch Kirill at the plenary session of the Russian Orthodox Church congress on social services.

In Russia, a population problem indeed exists. A huge country, but the population is definitely not enough. Not to even mention the economy…Indeed, we need more people, this is an obvious fact, everyone recognizes it: both politicians and sociologists. But in order for that to be the case, someone has to seriously work toward increasing the population.

The population can be increased as if by the wave of a magic wand. If we solve this problem, if we learn how to talk women out of getting abortions, statistics will immediately increase.
