The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on sanctions against Russia in which deputies, among other things, call on E.U. countries not to confiscate Russians’ personal belongings and vehicles upon E.U. entry.

Additionally, the resolution calls for expanding sanctions against Russia, including a complete ban on selling and cutting Russian diamonds, the creation of a system to track the origin of diamonds, and sanctions against Russian diamond mining group Alrosa.

In its resolution, the European Parliament urged the E.U. to work with G7 countries to reduce the prices of Russian oil and petroleum products by imposing a complete ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural and petroleum gas, as well as fuel and other petroleum products from non-E.U. countries if these products were produced using Russian oil. The parliament also proposed banning Russian oil and LNG shipments through E.U. territory.

Deputies also urged European countries to quickly find legal ways to confiscate frozen Russian assets and use them to rebuild Ukraine.

In early September, the European Commission issued a clarification on how E.U. member countries should apply a ban on importing a large list of goods from Russia, including cars. After this, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Finland, and Norway banned entry to cars with Russian license plates.
