Novaya Gazeta journalist targeted by attack in Grozny says assailants threatened to kill her if she returns to Chechnya

Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina, who was brutally attacked by masked men in Chechnya in early July, was questioned by an investigator from Chechnya about the assault, according to the Crew Against Torture.
During the questioning, Milashina said her attackers threatened to kill her if she returns to the region. “We’re already beaten you, and you didn’t understand; this is the second warning, and there won’t be a third,” she recounted them saying.
Lawyers from the Crew Against Torture are representing Milashina in the criminal case over the attack. The organization reported that it filed a request for state protection for Milashina to enable her to participate in investigative activities in Grozny.
