Ukrainian activists reportedly interrupt journalist Dmitry Muratov’s Global Media Forum speech with recording of air raid sirens
The sound of air raid sirens began playing during a speech by Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov at the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum in Bonn on Tuesday, TV Rain reported. The sound was accompanied by a voice saying to “take cover” in Ukrainian.
According to the Latvian news agency Delfi, the sound was part of a protest by Ukrainian activists, who reportedly also began chanting “Glory to Ukraine.”
DW noted before the forum that the announcement of Muratov’s involvement in the conference was met with “critical remarks from individuals on the Ukrainian side on social media.” The Nobel Prize-winning journalist’s speech was dedicated to the state of Russia’s independent media “in a time of crisis,” according to the event’s website.
