Russian authorities report drone attack on Moscow

Source: Meduza

Moscow was attacked by drones on Tuesday morning, according to the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin. Writing on Telegram, he said that several buildings sustained “minor damage.”

“All emergency services are at the affected sites. They’re investigating the circumstances of the incident. As of right now, nobody is seriously injured. I ask you to trust only official sources and not to spread unverified information,” read his post.

Sobyanin also reported that residents of two buildings that were hit by drones were evacuated for safety purposes while first responders worked at the scene. He didn’t report where in the city the damaged buildings are located.

Citing a source from the country’s emergency services, the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that one drone hit the top floors of a residential building at 98 Profsoyuznaya Street, damaging the building’s facade and the windows.

A second drone hit a 24-story residential building on Atlasov Street in New Moscow, part of the Moscow metropolitan area.

Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region, reported that multiple drones were shot down while approaching the capital. He said that residents in several of the region’s districts may have heard the sounds of explosions as air defenses were activated.

The Telegram channel Mash said that a 14-story building on Leninsky Avenue was hit by a drone containing three explosive devices, which failed to detonate. This story was also reported by the channel Shot, though it has not been confirmed by official sources. RIA Novosti posted a video from the area and said first responders were at work there.

According to the channel Baza, more than 10 drones were downed in the Moscow region on Tuesday morning and most of them were located in the Istrinsky, Krasnogorsk, and Odintsovsky districts.

This is a developing story.
