Artyom Uss, son of the current governor of Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region, has fled from under house arrest, two days after the Italian court had approved his extradition to the United States. The extradition was pending approval from the Italian Ministry of Justice.

On March 21, La Repubblica reported that Uss had been placed under house arrest near Milan. The next day, writes La Stampa, the detainee broke his electronic bracelet and left the apartment. By the time the local police arrived on site, he had already vanished.

Uss had been arrested on October 17, 2022, at Milan’s Malpensa airport, at the request of the U.S. Attorney General. The charges against him include illegal oil and weapons trade, money laundering, and sanction violations.
