Lesbian character refers to her wife as her ‘friend’ in Russian-language version of Hogwarts Legacy game

In the Russian-language subtitles of the Harry Potter video game Hogwarts Legacy, the character Nora Treadwell refers to her wife, Priya, as her “friend,” Russian journalist Nikita Likhachev noted on Twitter.

According to Likhachev, the translated dialogue appears onscreen at the same time that Treadwell calls Priya her wife in the English-language voiceover.

The inaccurate translation is likely an instance of censorship in response to the ban on “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships” that Russia passed in December.
