State Duma chairman threatens Western politicians with war ‘that will destroy their countries’ for supplying weapons to Ukraine
Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin warned Western countries to “understand their responsibility to humanity” for actions that could lead to “global catastrophe.” The politician said that Russia would “retaliate with more powerful weapons” if the U.S. and NATO countries supply Ukraine with offensive weapons that can be used to capture territory and strike civilian cities.
On January 22, Volodin posted on Telegram:
Washington and Brussels are leading the world to a terrible war with their decisions: to a completely different form of combat than today’s, when strikes are carried out only on military and critical infrastructure used by the Kyiv regime.
Given the technological superiority of Russian weapons, the foreign politicians making these decisions must understand: this could end in a global-scale tragedy that will destroy their countries.
Several days ago, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev threatened NATO countries supplying weapons to Ukraine with a nuclear strike, posting on Telegram that “a nuclear power losing a conventional war can provoke nuclear war. The nuclear powers have not lost major conflicts on which their fate depends.”
Defense ministers of NATO countries met on January 20 to discuss a new military aid package to Ukraine, however they didn’t reach a decision about supplying German Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
