On December 1, tariffs on housing and utility services in Russia increased. The marginal price increase in all of the country’s regions for gas, electricity, water, and heat supplies was 9 percent, in accordance with a resolution adopted by the government in November.
Utility tariff increases usually occur just once a year, in July, as RBC has noted. On July 1, 2022, Russia’s tariffs on utilities rose by an average of 4 percent. In September, however, the Economic Development Ministry announced a second tariff adjustment, citing the need to “update heating mains, water pipes, and other infrastructure.”
The ministry vowed that due to December’s rate hike, there will be no more tariff increases until July 1, 2024.
